Jury-Statements out now

Statement of the Jury: "ABC – A Painters Alphabet", "BÄÄÄM", "BOSQUE", "Shelter" and "The Sticky Dance"

While the FRATZ team is deep in the busy planning phase of the festival – finalizing venues and performance times, signing contracts and making travel arrangements – we are happy to share with you today the jury's statements for this year's selection of guest productions. You can also find the statements on our FRATZ website, along with an introduction to this year's jury, which consisted of Yama Tessa Hart, Susanne Tod, Cíntia Rangel, Dagmar Domrös, Vera Strobel and Doreen Markert.

The jury selected the five productions from 143 submissions. Here is a brief statistical overview for all the numbers enthusiasts among you:

Submissions by country and region:

The majority of applications this year came once again from Europe (116): 51 from Central Europe (20 from Germany alone), 8 from Northern Europe, 23 from Southern Europe, 27 from Eastern Europe, and 7 from Great Britain and Ireland. From the African continent we received 4 applications, 5 from Australia, and 9 from Asia. Central and South America was represented with 8 applications, and North America with 2. We are very pleased that FRATZ is now reaching artists and companies around the world, and will make efforts in future open calls to broaden their reach beyond Europe.

Age recommendations:

FRATZ is a festival explicitly dedicated to the youngest audiences – typically children between 0 and 6 years of age. However, this upper age limit is flexible, as long as the productions speak primarily to a very young audience. Productions aimed at ages 3–9 or 2–99, for example, can also find a place in the FRATZ program. For productions that consciously engage with accessibility and are aimed at neurodivergent children or children with disabilities, age recommendations should equally be understood more fluid, in view of each child's individual developmental profile. With that said, here are the numbers:

Productions:

• from 0 or 0.5 years: 34

• from 1 or 1.5 years: 22

• from 2 or 2.5 years: 32

• from 3 years: 55
