FRATZ Symposium

4 to 7 May 2019 at Podewil, Berlin-Mitte

Under the heading »Another World« we invite you to discuss, dream and live with us alternatives to the status quo, possible futures and forces for change. The role of art & theatre is up for debate. In Another World for 5 days we dedicate ourselves to the sensual-aesthetic perception of the world and look for new alliances and ways – to understand, to create, to change. As part of its theater work for very young audiences, Theater o.N. has initiated two collaborations with Berlin artists in public urban space that will form the basis of the symposium theme: »YEW:kids« by Jared Gradinger & Angela Schubot in co-production with Nature (Pankow Botanical Park), and »Nesting - Interdisciplinary Atelier« by Shelley Etkin & Yoav Admoni (Ruins of the Franciscan monastery church).

Further guests are Sisters Hope (artist collective, Denmark) | Stephanie Maher (»Tipping Utopia« - Ponderosa, Brandenburg) | Joshua Alabi (theatre maker, Nigeria) | Hannah Biedermann (theater maker, Germany) | Freddy Tsimba (visual artist, Congo) and others.

Please submit the completed registration forms to participate.

Practical Information

The symposium languages are German and English. Even though many of the invited speakers and artists are English-speaking, in order to participate it is not necessary to speak or understand English. The events will be translated in both directions.

Food and drinks will be available for all accredited participants during the symposium. The catering is provided by regional suppliers and will mostly be vegan.

FRATZ Reflections

The reflections document the results, discussions, and performances of the respective editions of our theater festivals »FRATZ International« and »Berliner Schaufenster«. We invited experts and authors to accompany the productions, laboratories, and events for industry professionals, to evaluate and integrate them into a discourse.
